VS SII Wagon
firstly when i bought my car if it was on about 1/4 of a tank and on an angle leaning to the left hand side the gauge would dramatically go down fuel light on beep car would stall. Push it to a flat surface and it would start again??? Turned out the fuel float etc was in the tank sideways !! as was thought there wasa problem with it so wed bought a new one (second hand) to replace it which we did. It still does it now but very rarely as we consider now the 1/4 line to be empty and keep the fuel up.

This is my second problem. The Gauge. If you put $20 in from 1/4 itll almost go to full...it will taek AGES to go down to 1/2 but will go down from 1/2 - 1/4 in like 20 kms of driving. Weve worked out the best we can it does 14-16L/100 kms around the city but its hard to judge this on the dodgy gauge.

Is there anything we can do to fix this problem on the gauge and the stalling/thinking its empty when it gets to 1/4

weve considered buying a brand new fuel tank (if they exisit)

Thanks in advance for your help

It may well be the fuel return line has not be fitted correctly to the swirl pot when the float/pump were installed. Other than pulling it again and checking the return hose I'd also check you have the right gauge float unit. A 2nd hand tank may the go....should get one for around $50 with pump still in it.
Good Luck.
