Hi All, Been viewing for a while, but first post - great site to find info on Commodores. I recently bought a VS Wagon build date 03/97 (done 150k) and there seems to be a few issues with this, hoping someone can tell me what could be going on here (sounds like it's either been in a fairly large accident or even chopped): - Has no Series 2 Badging (all 97 models were Series 2 I think) - ABS not installed (standard on 97 models) - Driver's door doesn't fit properly (shuts OK, but u can just see it's not quite right) - Inside window draught seals at base of window are missing on all four doors - the exhaust is hitting on the bell housing - Undersized brake rotors I did get it checked out by my mechanic before buying and he found nothing, but a lot of stuff doesn't add up..... Any help would be appreciated Thanks
Mate, If I were you I'd sell da car and get a proper one! Who knows what the previous owner done to it! Is it road worthy? I reckon it is cheaper to sell it and buy another similar car coz you'll have to repair alll that **** and may cost more depending on what it is involved. In short - dump it, get another one!
1997 VS S2 Commodores. Firstly, ABS was not standard on the VS S2 Executives. ABS became standard from the 1997 VT I believe. I have it on mine, but only because I optioned it. (I have a VS S2 as well as the VY S2) With the draft seals, are you talking about the inside door seals? They have a tendency to come off, being held on only by glue. I expect that they will be inside the door somewhere. I have one to fix on mine at the moment. I just checked mine for Series II badging. Only badge is the driver's side rear, under the Commodore badge. If the car had a rear shunt (even a small one), the panel beater may not have replaced it. I would not take the missing badge as a sign of major accident damage. The exhaust hitting would just be an adjustment I expect. I had my clutch done recently, and now my exhaust kits the ground going over speed bumps, whereas before it did not. Got to fix that one day too. Ot wait until it breaks from the impacts, and get a new one fitted????? What do you mean by undersized rotors? Is that too thin, or wrong diameter. If too thin, it is possible that it has been incorrectly machined during a brake pad change. New (and thicker) rotors give better heat dispersion. I do not accept thinner rotors, i.e. rotor machining. They are either good enough as is, or on with new rotors. Having said that, my VS (also in the 150K range) are still on original rotors. However being a manual, I have only recently replaced the original pads. With the driver's door, are the hinges loose? Have you tried to re-allign it? In short, I don't think that things are as serious as you think. The mechanic may have been right.
