Hey all, I've got a 3.8L VS and just wondering what could be done to reduce fuel consumption (if any), I've heard many rumours that a KnN air filter will help reduce consumption because better airflow, will that work? and also a cold air intake for better airflow and colder too? and a full exhaust system? the only worry I have is that.. usually more power = more fuel XD any proven things you could do?

service the car, pump the tyres up to about 38-40psi, dont drive hard at all. basic things man

dont carry around excess weight if its not needed, use a premium petrol......

Start off by giving the car a really good service if it hasn't had one recently. You will be surprised by how much difference it can make to your fuel consumption. There is also a thread on here somewhere that goes through ways to improve you fuel consumption, ill see if i can find it for you.

haha, this just reminded me, in my workshop manual for VN-VP-VQ-VG 5L's, under excessive fuel consumption, the last bit of advice is, "extreme acceleration and braking, revise driving habits". made me laugh

As guys above are saying, just look after her. K&N filter made no difference for me. Just remember that spending $80+ for a K&N filter (plus another $20 or $30 for a cleaning kit) would go a long way if you put it towards fuel. CAI (Cold air intake) is something that just about everyone will agree will provide some benefit and isnt a massive cost, so would recommend that one.

the thing is the high flow filter and CAI go hand in hand, although they need to pay themselves off, you are looking at about $160 in total.

the other day my car was reading 6.8 on the highway and 8.9 for around town (According to the trip computer)

However revising of driving habits is all I need to do to get it back to that level, i babied her around that week because..... I was broke and couldnt afford more fuel.

    my current setup.

Cool Air Intake + K&N Highflow panel filter
Pacemaker extractors + lukey 2 1/2 inch catback
9mm ice leads and irridium plugs
    custom memcal tune

plus good maintenance, look after her and she will look after you.

I also run a whole bottle of injector cleaner along with a tank of ethanol fuel every month.

lukey hi flow filter just bought $39 bursons washes in water no oiling at all good for 100,000km i think just clean every 6 months minimum. got CAI as well can feel power increase, its interesting to see the different power gains depending on the weather.

I too vote the CAI, good tune and revise driving habits.
If fuel economy is a big issue (cost) maybe think of down sizing.
Don't spend big money on performance mods expecting to use heaps less fuel is just false economy.
