so after changing the plug leads oil filter and earthing the 02 sensor, my car wont start, just sort of rolls over slowly and coughs a bit, need some help asap
yes, yes it was... there was a small hole in the body near the ECU and i was a tad lazy that day so i just earthed it their... i take it that may have something to do with it?
Yeah, it might. Have a close look at all the wiring and connectors etc near the ECU, something might have become slightly disconnected. Also not all VS's need the 02 sensor earths modified, some VS's had a few problems with the ECU not going into closed loop mode with certain error codes setting, and the earth fix supposedly helped the problem. Also the ECU will see false voltage flunctuations in the 02 sensor circuit if the 02 sensors are not earthed directly to the engine block as per the factory setup. The extra earths are fitted along with the original 02 sensor earths left in place..
If it just "sort of rolls over slowly and coughs a bit," then I'd suggest your battery may be on it's last legs - the electronics in Commodores needs a fully charged battery. I'd also doublecheck that the plug leads are on the correct plugs.
This...... O2 sensor faults will not effect starting. They need about 300 deg before they come 'on line'.
ok so i tryed her again today, after checking if all the wires were ok at the ecu, then nothing, then i checked to see if all plug leads were on properly, one wasnt that got rid of that horrible cough back, but she still didnt start, if i am correct the firing order is 1,4,5,2,3,6?
are the leads on the right spot on the coils. you should be able to see the numbers on the top. one side of your engine is even and the other side is odd. the lowest numbers like one and two are at the front while 5 and 6 are at the back
^^^ same as the old holden reds , 153624 , there should be numbers on the coils to tell you which ones go where.
I am wondering if the plug not being on properly has burned you DFI module out, I did that just last week by cranking the car over with a lead having nowhere to earth out...
Don't forget the waste spark system will fire every turn of the crank. Check you are getting a nice fat spark at the end of the lead. Can you hear the injectors clicking when you crank it?
These numbers shown in the pic in your above post are the cylinder and coil numbers, not the actual firing order of the engine, which is 165432. And its not the same firing order as used on the old red holden 6's, they used 153624 for their firing oder..
ok... so it was my fault, after checking the leads again i foung out i had c couple of leads in the wrong spot, she will start again, but a new issue has arisen, it smells very rich
