I'm looking to buy a VSII S-pack manual V6 as my first car, because from what I know the VSII is a big step up on the VR in terms of engine refinement etc and I want a manual first car. I was wondering if anyone drives one of these and can provide me with any feedback (on annoying problems, suggested mods etc...) Thanks
VS II Manual Executive Good afternoon, I have owned a VS II Manual Executive from new (1997), kitted out as follows: Air Conditioning ABS IRS Dual SRS Cruise Control Alloy Wheels Level 3 Instrument Cluster (installed last month) It has been worry free for eight years and 150,000 Km now, except that I have just had to replace the clutch and an upper radiator hose. The clutch was a shock, as it proved an expensive job - $1,450 - as the dual mass flywheel and clutch kit are more expensive that past Holden kits. Performance and fuel economy are good. I have averaged about 9.8 L/100 Km since new, but while that includes a fair amount of round town driving, it does not include peak hour commuting. Lightly laden on a trip, it has exceeded the old 40 MPG a couple of times, and always gives 35 MPG or better on long runs. The combination of light weight (about 180 Kg lighter than a VT), reasonable power (same Ecotech engine as the VT to VY) and the gear ratios of the Getrag manual make a well balanced combination. I have always used Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W50 motor oil, and there is no indication of stress in the engine. I have not as yet had the injectors cleaned, which I have heard is a good idea around 100,000 Km - apparently costs about $200 and can have a very positive effect on drivability if they needed cleaning. Last year, I bought a VY II manual executive (last chance as VZ does not offer the configuration, and I could not resist the price), but have kept the VS II because I did not want to let it go. One of my sons will be driving within a year, so it will probably pass to him sometime. Overall, I would commend the VS II Manual as a well balanced and reliable vehicle.
cheers Thanks for that It's exactly what I wanted to hear. Sounds like a good choice for a first car after all. Now all I gotta do is find one for sale near Perth in reasonable nick. Haven't seen any yet, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places... Thanks again.
Good Luck Hi, I wish you good luck. Not many manuals are sold, so they are in short supply second hand. Patience might be required. Cheers.
i reckon Yea I'm slowly figuring that out. Then add the restrictions of the Perth area and sub $15000 and good cond. Wondering whether to buy an auto and get it converted. That might be dodgy tho...
ive got a VS1 V6 manual and im wrapt.had a few niggling problems mainly from previous owners which were fixed under warranty from car yard but it goes everytime it uses a little oil but its always doing cold running to and from work and i expect that. the series 1 had the borg warner box as opposed to the getrag on S2. this means clutch is normal not stupid price to replace as mentioned above.i get about 400 kays out of the tank around town and about 650 playing safe on the highway 700 if i really wanted to push it to the limit and e prepared to walk for fuel lol.and i dont pussy foot around either.
nothing wrong with a bit of spirited driving. don't speed tho, learnt that today - multanova snapped me in a 60zone doing somewhere between 10 and 30 over (don't really know, will find out when i get the fine i s'pose) hope i'll still have my licence (dunno how it works in WA with p-platers...) what's done is done, can't change it now
