What can cause the red battery symbol not to light up on the dash? Its not coming on during start up or when grounding the wire going to the alternator. (Already checked the bulb.)

you are correct all warning lights should show on ign activation before start

thats very rare for an idiot light to do silly stuff

check the bulb means ? .bench tested the bulb .visual -volt meter on the contacts -tried a new bulb,or swapped a working one

a bad earth or copper contact connected to the instrument cluster printed circuit fault

what does the volt meter say at the battery as its charge input

I swapped the bulbs with working ones in the cluster and no change. The wire going from the cluster to the alternator is still supplying 12v with key on as its supposed to, so it should turn on the warning light when grounded.

Check the board on the cluster.Trace the printed circuits look for a broken part/line.

i agree with VTS5

sounds like that warning light has a bad earth to start with

-make one for it out of thin wire on its earth side of the cluster board

see if it lights up..

every bulb has to have an earth point on that cluster

the trick is that bulb has to go out after the car starts
