hey all i have a VT commodore never had issues with it before but today i went out, put the key in the ignition, the dash lights come on like normal, went to start the car, it kicked over once then stoped. after this happened it would not kick over, i took the key out and all my dash lights stayed on, i took the battery off and re connected it and the dash lights still stay on no matter what i do. when i reconnected the battery my hazzerd lights kept flashing and my imobaliser light come on, i put in the security code and that all stops but still dash lights stay on and i cant start the car. could anyone please help me solve this or tell me what is wrong with it as i need the car for work and if i don't fix it soon im going to lose my job. thanks for reading steven.
Have you tried checking for error codes ?? If your at risk loosing your job don't waste time, take it to Holden or mechanic, get it diagnosed correctly, repaired correctly to not waste anymore time and risk your job
how do i check for error codes? and i would take it down to get fixed but i live a hour away from my mechanic and the car wont even start and i don't have access to a car trailer or a car to tow it, this is y im asking for help or if anyone else had this issue so i can fix it
Do this before anything> http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/holden-commodore-how-tos/23665-checking-error-codes-vt-vx.html Write down what code you get. After that, disconnect battrey for 15 min's, Keep foot on the brake pedal for the 15 min's while batt is disconected, This will drain all remaining current. Reconnect batt. Then recheck codes, See what you get. It may be that the batttey in the key is flat and will not disengage the imobiliser, Do you have a spair key? Are you saying ALL the dash light's stay on even when the key is out of the ignition?
i had the key replaced a week ago, battery and blade, that's y i ruled out that its the key, i thought it might be the chamber maby something broke and its not letting the lights turn off or start the car but i dont know much about that, and all the lights that normal come on when you click the key to the first position where you have power to the car. i will go see if i can do this error code thing tomorrow morning and will post back how i go. thanks for the help
It might be a theft deterrent device fault. Turn ignition on and leave for 2hrs to reset, the vehicle will be reset after the red alarm light goes out.
Is it cranking but not starting, not cranking at all? From what you tell us I get the impression that the dash warning lights stay on even when you remove the key and the engine doesn't crank when you try to start the car. If this is so I would say it is a broken ignition barrel. As you suspected, something has broken off.
