These are some speakers and head unit combos ive come up with.

    Alpine CDE9843 Headunit
    Alpine SPR69LP Type R 6*9"
    Alpine SPR17LP Type R 6.5"
    Alpine SPR17LS Type R 6.5"
    Total Cost $1100

    OR

    Pioneer DEHP 5750 Headunit
    Pioneer TSD161S 6.5"
    Pioneer TSD69S 6*9"
    Pioneer TSC160R
    Total Cost $980

Some other suggestions or whether this system would be gewd yeh thxs.

    hey mate
alpine is the best out there for affordability and high quality.
thing is.. why alpine is so good.. is because they always give ratings below wat it actaully is.
My amp says.. 4*75W RMS. but i got a certificate with the amp saying it was testing at 4*108.6RMS.. like holy crap lol..
sony.. and some other brands may say 500W MAX output.. but only be like 100W..
apart from that.. i have a full alpine system... type-R with the 345 v12 amp... and believe me.. if u cant hear me coming from 10km's away.. u must be deaf

I'd suggest you listen to the speakers before you choose.

I personally don't like the sound of the Alpine Type R's very much.

no offense.. but if anyone judges the speakers by what they hear in the shop then ure stupid
the way the speakers are setup on those displays arnt for performance .. dey is for looks.. my friend won the autosalon audio comp with a Type-R sound system.. so u can diss **** till uve got it installed properly

Yes, I had an Alpine that came with a birth certificate as well....It was rated at 75Wrms@4ohms and it:s birth certificate said 107@2Ohms, which sounds about right. They certainly didn:t underquote their performance though.

Why do you want to run 2 pairs of rear speakers though? To me, it seems like a bit of overkill.

As for being heard 10kms away...why exaggerate? When I was at 143.2dB without sound deadening you struggled to hear me from 1km. Now, I can pull up beside you at the lights with my trunk flexing like all get out and you wont hear a peep. Thats the way it should be, stereos will one day stop being such a wank factor and goto back to pure audible pleasure.

Well said 12Voltking, the wank factor has to go, why should everyone else have to listen to someones music!. I have Pioneer gear in my car (and the previous car) and think it is great gear, but hey at the end of the day its your car and you should get what you want, but I have no complaints on Pioneer and would recommed them to any one who wanted my opinion.

Better off running 6x9s in the rear shelf. This will improve your bass response to no end.

Based on what I heard on the sound board in the shop, I didn't like the Type R splits very much compared to other similarly priced speakers.

Based on my system versus a friends, both VR commos, both running off the same amp, with the speakers installed in the same position, I still don't like the way they sound very much. I certainly much prefer the sound of my MBQs.

I agree that sound boards aren't the most accurant of measuring devices, but it's better than nothing, and can often give a rough indication of the way a speaker sounds.

go for some kenwood 7'10s in the back, they take such a beating and sound great, now they come in 5 way, ive still got the olsd blue 3 ways, though you really need a good strong amp, and yeah dont worry about the rear door speakers. and id go a 4 channel coustic amp, the sound qulity and bass u can push out of them is amazing. nine inch nails never sounded so good!

i have pioneer in my VT, it was already in the car when i bought it, and i will be chuckign it out and getting alpine as soon as i get sum more cash, i had an alpine system in my old vp and it was great id only ever buy alpine, but if for some reason alpine isnt for u then go kenwood, i wouldnt recomend pioneer, i cant stand my system! id also stay clear of fusion, sony and dont even think about eclipse! but thats my opinion u might think differently

depending if u are gonna get subs in the future, i just dont understand y u want a 1 brand system, sure u mite like the brand but there are much better speakers out there for the price u pay, jst one thing, listen 2 as many as u can, i recon the best place 2 listen is in some1s car who has them, eg at a car show. I have 2 alpine type R 12's and they thump in my room, not yet installed, i also have 2 pioneer 12's sittin in my room they also go hard, but its ur car and end of the day ur the one whos listening 2 it! not us! but ide personally go for a mix of brands

Is there any reason you shouldn't run 6*9's in the parcel shelf and 3ways in the rear doors?
Will it screw up the sound?

Chris...You will need to consider how you are going to power them....

Also, you will be overloaded with treble, honestly I would put the 6x9s in if you have no sub and spend the rest of the money on some good splits up front.
