Gday

The ride is the 1997 VT Series I - the first one made and put on the road !

Its been a beauty - maintained and served well, except now for a little coolant dribble at 220k on the clock.

Been trawling through these pages about VT coolant puddles forming overnight.

Does anyone out there have any resolution or clarity on the most likely causes of a coolant drip leak overnight (When car is cooling down) when the pressure test shows no leaks ?

Heater Core unlikely - no wet carpet and working fine.

A comprehensive review by any hard core Holden Men would be most appreciated. This issue seems to be so prevalent with the VT.

strange one I say change ya cap , usually when you stop they may pour water into you reserve and then suck it back in when cooling , so were is the drip or puddle next to the front right wheel looking from the front if so maybe to much water in the reserve.

Tried the cap already. No luck.
Mate it's dripping from somewhere down to the transmission oil housing bolts / bellhousing area, well behind engine bay. Drips down there then onto concrete below.

It's not under the front, it's more under transmission.

Ive gone under and had a look after jacking her up but can't trace to a source as have limited jacking height and ability to look around under there.

So far from forums I can only see following possibilities: ( after mechanics pressure test shows no leaks)

1. Heater core? No wet carpet but occasional gas evaporating/ white stuff blows out from vents from time to time but heat and air con work well

2. Rear main plate seal or welch plug?

3. Head gasket? Unlikely as car well maintained and driven very moderately.

Bastard leaks a small puddle after driving for about 1 hr, ie when cooling down. Started after mechanic replaced intake manifold gasket about 2 months ago.

Just wondering if anyone had some experience with this and nailed it comprehensively?
A lot of threads but few answers or follow ups....

My first thought was IM gasket. The fact that it was done recsntly is no guarantee that that isnt the cause. Couod also be heater hoses or a welsch plug. Have you had it pressure tested when cold? Ie leave it with mechanic overnight?

its hard to say without seeing it then , it may be a welsh plug or a hose .

can also chuck in this for a band aid fix

When the inlet manifold gasket was shot, it wasn't doing it! There was oil in cooling system. Now it's pissing a leak for an hour or so when parked after a solid drive.

Yup. IM gaskets can leak coolant aswell. There could have been negligence in refitting the gasket or failure to clean or silicone the verandah gasket and this could cause it.
