Hia guys,
first post so sorry if its in the wrong section or any thing like that,
i use these forums CONSTANTLY when working on my car, and iv finally gotten stuck with some thing that i cant work out
Im part way through replacing the engine in my old VT
i have the engine mounts off
the transmission brackets off, you know the two on the sides
the bolts from the transmission housing to engine,
the torque converter bolts off from the fly wheel
the starter motor
exhausts
wiring loom
and all hoses,
AND FOR THE LIFE OF ME I STILL CANT GET THE BAS**RD OFF
am i missing some thing simple ?
any help would be appreciated

also if any one is wondering why im leaving the transmission on place : the guy that gave me the donor motor said that it was the easiest way to do things.

Thanks Michael

dont know what you have for a workshop
engine crane etc

sometimes the wreckers leave the torque converter on and drop off the tranny

i would say the torque converter is stuck somehow on the flywheel ( the centering knobby bit )

will need a bigger lever to push it apart .... rest of the list looks fine

thanks for the reply,
yeah it feels like its just stuck but i didnt want to force it if i had missed some thing that might be obvious to some one who has done it before
and yeah the engine is on the crane, loose on the front end but still stuck like a loose tooth on the tranny haha
the dude said that leaving the torque converter on is a disaster as it all pulls apart and never goes back together, as far as i can tell its held to the fly wheel by three 13mm bolt

yes ok here is the nobby bit ..should come apart for you ok

there is a proper way to refit the torque converter just has to be done with care

go the way you feel confident

Sounds like the centre boss on the torque converter that goes into the crank is supporting the front of the transmission so you may have to put a jack under the transmission to take that load off and the 2 should seperate?

My engine fell off when I did it a few weeks ago. Jack the transmission a little, but not too much because its still connected to the TBar. Get a big screwdriver and jemmy the housing apart. There are 2 dowel pins so it could be stuck on there, but once it moves, the input shaft is very short so it just falls off.

You sure you got every housing bolt,? and 3 torque converter bolts?

I GOT IT OUT
It was two things,
1) sticky dowel pins just needed some 'gentle ' persuasion
2) the trans dipstick was still attached and ended up coming out with the engine haha. Hopefully it just plugs back in.

So there's a tip I haven't seen any one post about; MAKE SURE YOU UNBOLT THE TRANS DIPSTICK.
