Vt executive 3.8 ltr petrol smell

Hi I own a vt commodore 6 and I've noticed a bad petrol smell it comes and goes can anyone tell me how I can fix the problem

Geez mate, it could be coming from the fuel tank connections to some where in the engine bay and any where in between.
Next time it happens, have a good sniff around and try and narrow down the location of the smell.
Also check for any leaks.

Make sure the fuel cap is tight as well, that will give a fuel smell if not done up all the way

Yep, check your fuel cap is on properly. This happened to me a couple weeks back, put the fuel cap on right and all good now :)


If that doesn't help then check the system for leaks, make sure all the fuel line connections are tight.

Can you smell it inside the car, only from the outside, under the bonnet,
or all of the above?
Does the smell seem to come through the air vents?

No more petrol smell I changed the fuel cap thanks heaps

2004 2.5L Subaru Outback
We had the same fuel smell and not good while driving so the cap was replaced with a Repco unit and yeah straight away no more smell.
