vt gearbox noise?

I hear a tapping noise coming from between my gearbox n engine, only happens when in gear. any idea's on what it could be????
and can front struts be installed wrong? I took my car for a roady and they informed me that the struts have been put in wrong? (the left strut is on the right & the right strut is on the left) wtf? is that possible? if so do I need spring compressors to swap struts back around?
