Hi all,

Got a pain in the bum heater fan squeak which is driving me nuts.

I've had it out and tried to blow the carbon out of the motor, thought that would have solved it... But sadly not.

I didn't fully take the motor apart, just the rear cover, I suspect it's the bearings at the top end.

Any tips for taking it apart and cleaning the motor!?

Any photos would be awesome also.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Ash

Like any motor, sounds like the thing has run dry and needs regreasing

Hmmm

Never tried

As a kid, did some with some electric motors, which just had a squirt of machine oil added to it internals to help lube

If blower fan internals can be taken apart, then possible to do, unsure how. Bearings should be accessible unless they are a sealed unit then will need something like a dry lubricant

Maybe spray Nulon Ezi-Glide
Is a dry spray lubricant

Normal silicon sprays and wd40 etc may only last few days

Try that first.

Or

I only pulled the base off mine because I couldn't be bothered with fiddling with the commutator contacts and having springs popping out everywhere (it may not be like this as I never tried).

Mine had scale and corrosion on the case, I cleaned it off and blew the inside clean and stuck a dab of graphite grease on the brass bearing at the bottom. I guess if it's worn out and making a noise you should get a new motor as they look like cheapo construction anyway.

I've had an extensive look through the Factory Service Manual and I
can't find anything on servicing the Blower Fan.
It may not even be a serviceable item in regards to bearings and such and by the time you take it to an auto electrician,
it'll probably cost you more than buying a new one.

As said above......If it's making weird noises, chuck it and get another one.

Is it an easy thing to remove and inspect?
I have never looked into it but I assumed the whole dash needed to be dropped out in order to get at the blower fan?

It's quite easy and you don't have to remove the glove box as described above.

Throw away society mindset, stuffed and repairable are 2 different things.
Stuffed would be the motor seized and burnt all the enamel off the wiring and no longer functions at all.
