Hi. I bought myself a 98 VT. My central locking works for all the doors except the front passenger door. The door lock thingy is down, but I can still open the door. So it's not actually locking itself. Also when I lock my car, my indicator lights don't flash like they do when I unlock it and the lights flash twice. When I lock it, they don't flash at all. The clicking sound I mentioned in my title is coming from the vicinity where the relays and fuses are down under the steering wheel. It does it after I have been driving for a while. I was thinking maybe a dodgy relay for my indicator. (My drivers side front indicator plays up intermittently, replaced globes and the dodgy headlight the previous owner had in it and seemed fine til yesterday it stopped worling for 5 mins then worked again). My problem is it never does it when I get home and stop and have the car running so I can get down and listen to exactly where the noise is coming from. The only other thing is that the car used to have spot lights fitted, whoever had it before has removed them and left the wires taped over behind the bumper. Is this possibly the problem?
Give us a chance mate. If your indicator is playing up, one possible solution is to replace the indicator stalk, reasonably cheap and easy to do. There's a how to somewhere on this site. My indicator and window wiper stalks both broke, before it went my indicator was turning off and on of it's own accord. As for the clicking, not sure, if you're seriously worried about it you can take it to an auto electrician. Those wires for spot lights, so long as they are insulated shouldn't be a problem. VT electrics are... well terrible, so don't be overly concerned unless things stop. Not sure on your passenger door, let me talk to a couple of mates and I'll get back to you, have you checked that all the mechanics of the door lock check out?
Thanks MC. The indicator problem seemed to stop after I replaced the headlight. The person who had it before obviously hit it there and for some reason had cut the tabs off the lights and it never sat in there firmly and I suspected it was causing issues with the connection. All has been good since, changed the globes when I changed the light. But the other day it went funny for 5 mins and is now good again. But yes I have read pretty much the whole VT section over the weekend and picked up that the indicator stalks seem a bit dicky in these cars. The clicking Im not fussed about, was just curious as it doesnt seem to affect anything. (only thing in the car that I cant use is the interior light as it switches itself on while Im driving and sometimes wont switch itself off , so I pulled the globe out). The door lock doesnt go up or down, so Im thinking that for whatever reason the previous owners had the door trims off, they havent put everything back properly? Im trying to get the car ready for roadworthy check. The previous owner only had it for a month and must have figured it was too much to do everything to it. Its needed a lot of work underneath.(not to mention hours and hours to clean blood out of the entire interior for which no explanation was ever given!!) And I was shafted by this bloke from day 1. But I love this car and am willing to put the time and effort into it. Pretty much to stick it to my other half who keeps saying it's a POS. I feel embarassed that I ended up with a car that needed so much work, but Im willing to stick with it.
