Hey all as the title states I have a ls1 auto trans slipping out of 4th and 3rd..

I just bought a 99 vt calias with the 5.7 in it.. the Guy told me about the trans but I'm wondering what could be doing it.. I can take off in D and go through 1st and 2nd as normal but it wont engage 3rd or 4th.. it revs out in those 2...

Could it be as simple as a flush or service or I have read that plugs and leads could be a factor?.. I'm very new to v8s (only about an hour) so don't know anything about them...

Any advice or help would be great if its an easy DIY fix before I spend a sh1t load getting someone else to do it haha...

Cheers guys

I forgot to mention that the car has 115xxxks..

A trans service may help, but I would be getting a trans specialist to have a look. Sounds more like a rebuild coming up.

Yep $2-3 grand for a rebuild... generally losing gears means rebuild time... check the fluid level and/or try a service first, other than that there's not much you can do yourself on an auto box. The autos are bound to die sooner or later behind LS1s, so at least if it needs rebuilding you should be good for a while afterwards.

Try topping up the fluid if its low but if that doesnt sort the issue, its off to a trans specialist.
If you're strapped for cash you can get a stock 2nd hand box in good working order starting around $300.
I'm not sure how many hour labour is needed to change it over.

If the oil is REALLY smelly, dont bother with a service. Do not pass go, dont collect any money(except to pay for a trans), its buggered.

vs commodore
Check for any logged error codes and see if theres any transmission error codes logged. It may just be a faulty 3-4 shift solenoid etc .
