hi to all
Thanks for reply’s to previous post
Got a 97 Vt berlina wagon 5.0
Was getting fault code for ect unstable (coolant temp sensor)
So replaced yesterday along with heater tap that was leaking all went well
No leaks etc
Lost bit of coolant so refilled and bled with car facing uphill heater on full and coke bottle trick in radiator with gravity sucking the new coolant in.
Bit of bubbling in coke bottle with the air making its way out
Waited bout 20 min until no bubbles anymore
Scanned and cleared fault again
Hasn’t returned
But now when it’s running there is a funny low dull whining/whiring sound?
Never there before
Not a grind or whistle
It’s hard to explain
On idle and increases rate under acceleration
Not overheating
Fans come on as they should
It’s got me
Thought maybe a pulley but sounds more towards firewall?
Kinda worried
Doesn’t sound like water pump
It’s not power steering as that’s new and not leaking and fluid is fine
Although kinda sounds like that
It’s not ac compressor cause that’s not working atm.
Radiator cap is new
Didn’t do thermostat
Really unsure now
Any help appreciated
Think it’ll have to got to mechanics tomorrow arvo
Thanks in advance

You don't need to do anything special to bleed the cooling system on the Holden 5.0/5.7 engines. Any air in the system will make its way to the overflow tank over the next couple of days. Just keep topping up the tank.

It sounds like you may have spilt some coolant onto the belts. Should be OK after a couple of days, otherwise just lube the belts and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks mate
Yeh definitely got some coolant on belts
I thought as much with bleeding
Just wanted to be sure
Yeh I can’t see it being anything major
Was a simple sensor and heater tap
Thanks heaps mate

Hi mate after I got home I had another look round
Found the noise
Thought I’d try something simple
Disconnected the vacuum line from manifold that goes through firewall to climate control system
Wallah
Noise stopped
I was listening and thought it sounded like at the firewall/dash area
Sounded like the vac wasn’t enough to open the vent doors or something?
Was a weird sound
Kinda like a whoosh of air every time you revved it
So I guess that’s kinda good
Didn’t sound like was at pulleys or belts etc
So yeh not sure why
But least I found it
That’s next task lol
I was having trouble with my air mix servo as it wasn’t closing heater tap as internal cog was broken.
I bodgyed it up and was working but must have broken again
So for last few months my heater tap has pretty much been cable tied shut
When I replaced it and ran heater that all works fine but servo still won’t close tap so I’ve ordered a new servo
Not sure though why the noise appeared after new tap installed?
Vac line is connected to manifold correctly
One way valve is ok
But I have got the X on the climate screen last few days which I thought was due to outside air temp sensor
But no fault codes?
Now gotta find out why lol
Never ends
Any suggestions
Cheers mate.

The Electronic Climate Control (ECC) fault codes are recorded within the ECC module and you need a Tech2 (or equivalent) scan tool to display the fault codes:

DTC CODE DESCRIPTION
13 Ambient temperature sensor out of range - high
14 Ambient temperature sensor out of range - low
15 In car temperature sensor out of range - high
16 In car temperature sensor out of range - low
17 Evaporator air temperature sensor out of range - high
18 Evaporator air temperature sensor out of range - low
19 Sun load sensor fault
21 Air mix motor drivers side - dual & single zone (motor & PBR test)
24 Air mix motor passenger’s side - dual zone only (motor & PBR test)
36 Serial data communication error
37 ECC control module - Internal failure
38 EEPROM failure (ECC control module)

But I have got the X on the climate screen
This happened to my vt. For me was easy fix. Took the fascia of, pushed the power plugs in properly. One of the plugs wasn't seated properly.
All good now. No x in the window.
