Am looking at a VT Senator. 5L auto sedan. Stock suspension and rims. Are they any good for towing? Will it flog my springs out? etc. Im looking at towing a 1000kg - 1500kg poptop caravan. Wouldnt be towing one every day but say might tow it 8000km a year out of the 20,000 km a year ill be doing. any hints and suhgestions would be great! Cheers! Jason
Should do fine bud, i used to tow around my enclosed bike trailer with no problem at all although it only weighed about 900kg loaded. I'd suggest you get a trans service and instantly install a trans cooler though. the 4L60's do not like being worked hard without a cooler.
The V8 auto is ideal for towing, the standard towbar is 1200kg, there is a 1600kg bar as well as a 2100kg. It is a bit more expensive but go the 2100kg, thene you will have the extra reinforcement under the car that to towbar provides. It won't effect your springs. The downside is that you will need to cut a bit out of the rear skirt for the towbar. Put extractors on it too, more torque for less pedal = less fuel used.
cheers guys. have seen few pics of ones with the cut hole and they look very neat. will go that way for sure. cheers jason
