Vt series 1 5.0 error codes help
Hi all first time poster
I’ve got a 97 Vt 5.0 series 1 berlina wagon
Got airbag light on dash
Had clock spring done 2 years ago
I changed front seats few months ago for which I disconnected battery
Light has never been on before now
Just out of blue yesterday
I checked and got error code 35
Now in my searching I’m finding two different errors for same code?
One says 35 idle error eg Iac valve
Other 35 says drivers seatbelt pretensioner?
Im not sure which is correct
I’m thinks seatbelt one as airbag light is on?
Cars running fine
Are Vt 5.0 error codes same for series 1 and 2?
I know v6 and v8 the same
Just not sure why I’m coming across 2 different error codes 35
Can’t find a definitive answer
Any help appreciated

That is correct,

35 Idle speed error (IAC valve unable to control idle speed)

May need cleaning, Or the plug is lose or the wires are damaged,
Or may need to be replaced.

Hey thanks for the reply
Yeh that’s what I’ve come across
But I’ve also come across a code list for Vt v8 that says 35 is seatbelt pretensioner?
Which makes sense cause my airbag light is on?
I’m getting code 12 and 35?
Come across this list?
Cheers

You have a couple of option to confirm the diagnosis. Seeing as it is the ABS light it is probably the pre-tensioner.

Your options are to either take it to a workshop who have the correct scanning gear or you can get a cable and software from Envious Customs (site sponsor) which can diagnose the ABS system and give a more definitive answer to what the exact fault is and possibly reset.

Are you using a scan tool to get the error codes? The major components of the VT and subsequent Commodore models, such as the engine/trans, ABS, SRS (airbag), and instrument cluster, have their own processors/modules and their own series of error codes. The codes between modules are not unique. As you have discovered, code 35 can have one meaning for the engine/trans and another meaning for the SRS (airbag).

If you are using the paperclip method, you can display engine/trans codes by bridging pins 5 and 6, and ABS codes by bridging 5 and 12. But you can't display SRS (airbag) codes without using a scan tool.

Hey thanks heaps for the info
Yes exactly what I thought
The different systems have different error codes but possibly same numbers
All makes sense now lol
So yeh I think I got an srs error and a engine error
So I think the 35 I’m getting by bridging pins 5 and 6 is the iac idle error
And although airbag light is on I have not yet seen the actual error code relating to that error.thinkg of investing in an envyous customs ALDL cable and engine/srs kit $110
Not bad considering my guy wants $50 to read and clear code once lol no brainer I reckon
Thank you for your reply

Thanks so much for your reply
Yeh I’m looking at enyvous customs kit right now $110 for ALDL cable and engine/airbag scan kit which will tell me exact srs code and clear it not bad considering my guy want $50 to read and clear code just once good investment I think
I’m sure it’s seatbelt pretensioner
And 35 code I’m seeing now relates to the iac valve
Cheers
