Where is the loose wire? What part of the alarm do U want to test? Is it a factory alarm or aftermarket one?

if he was going to steal the car he would have kept a spare key and remote
your question is still not clear, do you want to know what the wire is or how to check if alarm works
and we still need to know what sort of aftermarket alarm it is

Wind your window down, lock the car, unlock the door by hand from the outside then open the door and im pretty sure that should set the alarm off.

asxVTx said lock your car with windows down
wait 5 minutes (most alarms have a timer before they arm)
then reach in window and unlock door and open- alarm should sound
then reset alarm start car, then turn off and lock car
again wait 5 minutes, undo 2 screws holding remote to key
then just using key reach in window and try to start- alarm should sound
