Hey all,

I thought I was already a member here but apparently not. I'd just been using a lot of your information for various things. :)

Now I have a 98 VT SS S1 and on friday I started driving back down south from the Gold Coast and I couldn't get into 2nd or 4th gear. So it was a fun drive home in start/stop traffic for the first 20min, then it was mostly fine. :| When I got home I tried to go into reverse and that wasn't going to happen either.

Does anyone have any ideas of what the specific issue might be or a rough cost of getting it fixed?

Cheers all.

So, a quick recap, I can't get into 2nd, 4th or reverse.

Can you get a gear if you pump the clutch, also is the clutch master cyl full.Have someone watch the fluid level and see if the fluid rises or falls when the clutch is depressed.
With the hand brake firmly on and make sure NO one is standing in front or back of you, Try starting it in 2nd gear or reverse with the clutch depressed and see what happens when you slowly let the clutch out, does it take up as normal.
Just trying to help eliminate clutch master cyl, slave cyl also use a torch and look up under the dash behind the clutch pedal on the fire wall can you see/feel if there is any sign of fluid leaking from the mastercylinder eg wet carpet.
This might not even be the problem but it,ll cost you nothing to eliminate this,

Yeh I just assumed it was manual as he said gearbox not transmission and the fact he couldnt get it into gear, but good call anyhow kblume:beer chug:when all the info isnt revealed sometimes you have to assume by what info is given
SecoDeco You havent by any chance have a rip shift installed and the positve stops need adjusting or it might be
a Mispositioned shift selector arm roll pin.

Thanks guys for replying rather quickly!

CONROD, I will check those things out tomorrow and see how we go. I did try pumping the clutch during the drive home trying to get it into second and at first I thought it was going to work but it didn't.

Kbkume, yeah its a 5 speed manual, sorry I didn't specify, I thought it would be obvious but I also rushed the post a bit. Thanks :)

CONROD, no I haven't touched anything to do with the gearbox, which I guess is an issue in itself haha :)

Good point Hrd455, .With the engine not running are you able to select each gear and feel them engage.Might pay to get a transmission specialist to have a look for you,(free quote)

Sorry guys, I haven't been back on. Haven't done anything with it yet as night work kills me haha. Nah, won't go into any of those gears at all. Engine on or off. Would it be possible for a linkage to broken or something? I'm not wise with gearboxes at all but someone had mentioned it to me.
