Vt ss v6 supercharged 1998
  1. Hi guys, I just picked up a Vt 1998 ss v6 supercharged commodore and it has rust behind the rear bumper on boot and chassis rail rust. They only made 250 of these cars, but I found the motor has been replaced in 2012 so not matching numbers. I’m on the fence weather to go a head and do a total rebuild on car. Needs a lot of thing to be replaced but car it strait and interior is mint. Is it worth the trouble and return on a full rebuild on a car like this? Cheers

If you want to keep it and like the car, yes.

If you plan to fix/sell, it would be a very poor decision in the current market (and market for the foreseeable future IMO).

There are many factors to consider,

What does it mean to you?
How bad is the rust?
How much work can you do?

I certainly wouldn't be doing it for monetary gain as most likely it may end up costing more than you could sell it for. It looks tidy enough though so may work well for a keeper. Not sure if there is any intrinsic value in this particular model even if it is a limited edition with or without the original engine.

If it was just a standard v8 ss I would just resell the car as there a quite a few around. There is a fair bit that needs to be done and replaced to the car. The car will be kept if done as there just so rare now. Cheers

I’ll put some pic’s up of rust on Saturday as I’m away for work now. Cheers
