G'day Commodore Lovers Everywhere,
I own & love my VT SS 5.0litre, which I stroked to a 355 & had a Stage 2 Shift Kit put in auto.
My problem is, I've got 1st, 2nd & Reverse, 3rd & 4th are non existent ?
Is this a common problem & what will I need to do to get back on the road again ?
Also, I've been told that I have to repair & reinstall this Auto as the computer system will not recognise any other Auto but the original ?
Thanks For Any & All Your Advice,
Sam

Hi, I am not sure, I doubt that you need to rebuilt yours, many are changovers and no drama, something like the BCM or cluster would require programming but the trans i doubt it!

Sounds like you have burnt out the clutch pack, or broken a band.

I just went through the same thing, total rebuild time.

Check the state of your trans fluid.

Overfull or underfull - adjust accordingly. Also give it a service if it hasn't been done recently.

Right level fluid but dark brown with a burnt smell - it's highly likely that your 3-4 clutch pack is toast. Unlikely to be the band as it isn't applied for 3rd. Either way though is a rebuild or swap over.

Right level fluid good condition - probably an electrical fault of some nature preventing valves from operating correctly and engaging 3rd and 4th. Also give it a service if it hasn't been done recently.
