hey all... im trying to remove my front struts... read on here how to do it.. got the first nut off and plate, now im trying to undo the second one but it wont undo.... i dont have 24mm ring spanner and the shifter wont grip good enough on this one... anything else i can do?? i need it done asap.. cheers all
If you dont have a 24mm socket and ratchet or 24mm ring spanner then go buy one coz a shifter will just fcuk it up eventually.
no tool shops are open... the nearest one is a 40min drive... need to get this done today coz the bearings **** themselves.. i have all the new parts waiting to go in...
you don't have a repco in harden? try some multy grips, though you don't want to stuff the nut which they may.
You'll need a 24mm spanner, because you need to be able to grab the 10mm nut in the middle to turn it without turning the whole strut. I'd recommend just going and buying one, it will save you a lot of headaches, and you'll need it for the other side anyway. Beats having to grind the nut off the top because you rounded it. Otherwise, ask your next door neighbour if he/she has a 24mm spanner?
no tool shops in harden mate... my only neighbour is an old guy.... ive asked him for tools before.... nothing.. ill find a way of getting into town tomorrow to buy a 24 mm spanner as ill need it for the 2 strut bolts anyway ive even offered on fb groups that ill pay $20 for one right now but no takers haha..... cheers guys..
Isn't the strut top mounted to the car by only the one nut? I thought the second was to remove the spring.
Damn, I know the feeling. I'm 10k's from town where I am, but got lucky and had the right spanner. Still had to drive 60k's for the parts lol. Can't win either way.
all good guys... a complete stranger seen me post on facebook groups and offered to help me out... got the tools i needed... all the new parts are done.. just gotta put the struts back in..cheers all..
yeah as soon as i got the right spanner it came undone with no hassel at all haha... glad i did the job when i did coz there was no bearing left in one of the bearing cases.. it was completly shot... but new ones are in same with mounts and i even chcked on the vy sl's i bought for $80 (front and rear).... thank you to everyone that tried to help. i WILL be oing into town today to buy the tools i need incase i ever do it again haha
