How many K's has it done ?
If 180k +, I would of also said the Fuel Pump,
but "Make sure you get one for a Super6"
The Super6's did have a different Fuel Pump.
And check ALL the Vacuum Pipes, inc the one to the boost solenoid.
I replaced all mine because the rubber fittings had perished.

Thanks, everyone for all the replies!! :)
sorry for the late responses it is much appreciated!!
OK, we found one serious problem (not sure if this will be what is causing the intermittent stalling but one can only try). We found that the starter motor positive has a broken connection on the solenoid (broken not but not disconnected) and on turning the engine over the positive terminal has been shorting out on the starter heat shield cover and sparking!!! So shield is now removed and dad is waiting untill next week to buy a new starter motor!.
This also sadly explains why dads $1700 Kenwood sat/nav DVD unit suddenly is now broken :( so if anyone has one of these shields please be aware of what can happen!!!

Yes shorting out positive cables can cause havoc. We had the main wiring loom behind the power steering pump moving about and when you went over decent bump it would rub on the pulley and the engine would momentarily cut out, took ages to find.

fuses cost less
It's a bit hard to fuse the main power feed to the starter motor, very rare to see it done from the factory and is fairly much the only thing that isn't fused.

The head unit was bought and installed by Autobarn, dad and I didn't even know that the starter was shorting out (being covered by the heat shield it was shorting out on) except for seeing sparks around the starter motor in the garage at night in the dark looking around the engine bay with a torch.

Yeah We really hope replacing the starter will fix the stalling problem!! Most probably not going to put the old heat shield back on =/

Disconnect the battery,
Remove the cable at fault, and use a few layers of shrink sleeving on the terminal to insulate it that’s causing the issue.
Refit it and make sure it’s done up tightly and away from the heat shield.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like a great idea

My advice would be to place the heat shield back on, its was installed for a reason originally,
Where it would be best to maybe bend it away from the problem area,
Keeping in mind, the heat can cause the starter motor to fail, and that will probably happened at the most inconvenient time/moment.

Yeah Dad would like the shield put back on as the car has extractors and they are close to the starter!.
