My daughter has a VT with trans problem. Replaced original one with a second handy, after a couple of weeks it started dropping back to 3rd gear at 100kph. We were told converter probably was the problem, she kept driving it around town for another week while we worked out what to do, then developed a real bad noise & trans locked up. Ended up getting another one under warranty from wreckers who reckons he never had this problem before. This time put a filter kit in,all was fine for about 6 weeks, started dropping back to 3rd gear again, then real bad noise started again. Put car on hoist & ran it for 5 mins at 100kph, no probs. Turned off, started up,noisy again. It sounds like its coming from the centre to rear of trans. Can turn the tailshaft by hand & everyso often it locks up & then releases. Would appreciate any ideas on what might be the cause. Thanks, Geoff
Low oil level makes the car go into Limp-home mode, basically no 4th gear. Also low oil will bugger up the tranny, possible noises developing? Do they check the oil level with the tranny hot and after shifting through the gears. Otherwise oil will read higher than it really is.
I am aware of low oil causing problems, but level is ok, just weird 2 trans have done the same thing!
Id be checking for any logged error codes first up.. Also check the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and its wiring, as the TPS helps control the auto transmissions shifts etc. Also check the wiring and connectors that go from the transmission into the engine bay etc.
was the cooler drained and all new fluid ? i hurt a auto after getting it fixed as the oil in the trans cooler had crap in it and wen it got back in the auto the box dident like it again.
