First thought it was my air conditioning crapping out as cloudy stuff (could have been steam but didnt smell like it)started coming through the air vents. Turned air conditioning off and all was well until temperature rise and guess what, no water. Refilled system and it would last a day or so before needing to be topped up. Noticed that the water was leaking from under car but almost midway along the transmission type area on passenger side. The only thing i thought was there was airconditioning drain. So looped the hose from the water tap so there was no hot water entering the heater core and this seemed to fix it, so I assume it must be the heater core that has sprung a leak, is that a common problem and is it the problem?, Thanks for your help.

Sounds to me like you only have water in the cooling system, put coolant in and you will know whether it is water from the A/C or coolant from the heater core. If you only have water and no coolant you will suffer corrosion and then things like the heater cor, water pump, radiator and other things will fail.

Yeh its common if you have no inhibitor in your cooling system. Its like 8/10 commys i look at have no green **** in them, I replaced the water pump on one yesterday because the fins had completely eroded away..
