VX Berlina SII V6 3.8L
G-day.
Well basically I am sick of the old Commodore diff and its single-pegger shenanigans.
So I am looking to upgrade to a LSD Diff, however I cannot afford an aftermarket unit and so was looking for a used stock one.
When browsing it seems that the most common ratios are 3.07, 3.08 and 3.46. also seen some 3.27's.
3.07 is by far the most common.
I'm not sure what mine is as standard and was hoping someone could tell me which one I need? Or which one is better while i'm already changing it?
I've read that a higher geared diff, ie. 3.4-3.7+ is better for acceleration but slower for top speed?

I'd rather some more punch off the line rather than top speed. I do more city driving than highway.
I have a VX Berlina '2000' SII. Auto at the moment but was looking into a manual swap later in the year.
I will have a friend of mine, a mechanic, changing it for me. I'm assuming it should be a straight change-over if its a 3-bolt one?

Regards, Gabriel.

I don't know why anyone hasn't answered your question, maybe it has been asked too many times before?
Your diff right now is a 3.08.
3.7 is best for auto
3.9 is best for manual

These diff ratios will offer a good increase in acceleration and a slight reduction in top speed.
Fuel usage will increase a little, it may be around the same for city driving but it will definitely increase on the highway.

I think there is a 3.45 & 3.46.
One was auto one was manual well i think anyway.

I went the 3.46 in my 5 speed. I think 3.7 would be a bit much.

3.7 is great for auto, still changes to second gear after 100km/h
5 sp manual it is more preference as to how short you want your gears, go 4.11 and first gear will not last long at all lol
