I have a v6 auto which has been giving me problems for quite some time now. I could start the car fine but after driving for about half an hour if i turned it off it wouldn't start again for at least another half an hour. I could jump start if i really needed to and the warning lights for the engine and oil would come on. I then replaced the oil pressure sensor and the filter and did an oil change hoping that would fix it but no joy so its not an oil issue. The problem just started to get worse and i suspected it was something overheating but not sure. When i was in a hurry i could disconnect the battery for 60 seconds to reset the computer and it would start again, but about a week ago this stopped working too and it just would not start at all. Someone trying to help showed me how to pull out the fan relay and use a wire to connect 2 points then turn the key and it will start but i had to leave the wire there and pull it out to stop the car..... very dodgy! But this is the only way the car will now run and it will stop now while i am driving and this is draining the battery. I havent got a clue what is wrong with it and im getting really desperate!
Check for any logged error codes. If you dont know how to do this simple check, then have a read and check the pics out in the link below, its for VR/VS, but checking the VTV6 codes is the exact same process. This error code check should give you an idea as to whats causing the problems.. http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/holden-commodore-how-tos/22307-checking-error-codes-vr-vs-revised.html
Thanks for your reply brett. I cant get a code, not even a 12. I had my suspicions that i may need a new starter motor and computer and this is just bringing me closer to that conclusion. What are the signs that my computer is no good?
If you have followed the pics and instructions in the link I posted above, and you still cant get the engine light to flash up any logged codes or even code 12 to show that the system is ok, then theres most likely a problem with the ECU/PCM (Engine computer).
