I have an 02 VU V6 auto, basically a poverty pack. Occasionally it refuses to start. It cranks fine, I can hear the fuel pump running, but it won't even attempt to fire. It doesn't appear to be throwing a code as the check engine light is off. It will also accasionally cut out when driving. Pull over and wait a while and it will re start.
Any ideas?

Progress report. I wiggled the wiring loom behind the harmonic balancer and the bugger started and ran. when I get a chance, i'll get in there and clean the plug and check for obvious signs of broken wires etc. if nothing jumps out, I'll replace the crank angle sensor and see how that goes. Thank you very much for your help!

If that’s what you did and it started, it may well be the terminals in the connector rather than the sensor.

I would be giving the loom a tug while holing the connector. Observe the terminals in there.
The terminal pins might also be loose. As in not gripping the sensor pins. In which case remove them from the connector (do a search for the connector type to find out how to release the pins) and squeeze them in a bit so they grip the reciprocal terminal pins again.
