Thats interesting. I'll have to try and have a look somehow.
I thought mine should go harder but the mechanic who done the tune said it goes harder than he expected.

Some of them SS Fifty got the better heads and performed better then the normal old 5.7L
The heads have the number of what they are on them near the front exhaust.

Bugger, I have 241 heads. I think the 243's are the better ones.

243 heads come off the LS2 and LS6 and they are the better head. Its the cheaper route for better heads for LS1 without going down the aftermarket route. There's always a serious debate on what's better stock 243 heads or port/polished 241 heads.

Obviously aftermarket or P/P 243 heads will be better again but $$$

Super tidy ute btw mate.

Decided to get rid of the SS Growler setup and go back to standard looking airbox and keep the SS intake pipe.
Made no difference to how she runs or sounds.
Engine bay nearly looks like it would have out of the factory now.

I know the Growler thing has been done to death but couldnt be happier now I have gotten rid of the bloody thing.
The Growler used to get that bloody hot I could barely touch it and having to have it mm perfect so as to not touch the power steering pulley and not rub on the Monaro bonnet was a PITA.
Stock air box with the extra hole, looks good, fits properly and not even close to the same heat.

I left my VY SS stock as I drive through a lot of deep creeks at times, even had water over the bonnet and lapping to the windscreen wipers and over a bit for a while due to the wave I am pushing through just idling in 1st through the water, I got worried then thinking f aarkk, all the carpet got a bit wetter than what it did some other times.

Couple changes this week with a VCM cam kit going in and the shop who is doing the work suggesting to keep the turtle shell engine cover off for the heat so got these done as well.
Wanted to keep the same colour theme.

Got the cam kit, under drive kit & dyno done. 242KW at the wheels. 325HP I think.
Good bad or otherwise - I'm not sure.

Only went the smaller cam as didn't want to go down the stall converter path.
Ute was running pretty **** when I dropped it off as the last bloke who tuned it would unlock it only with a stock tune.
Extractors & high flow exhaust twin system but no OTR.

At the end of the day the number really means jackshit . Don't worry about the KW number cause that's all it is .....a number.
At the end of the day a dyno is only a tuning tool, and 10 different dyno's will give you 10 different KW figures.
As long as it goes better with a noticeable increase in power & torque and your happy, that's all that matters.

What was the number of the VCM cam you went with ?
