Hey every1,

Im a bit stumped atm my babys motor is playing up and is about to die or something seems to be on its way out inside either way, will have to take apart the motor to find out. ( were thinking maybe pistons or and tailshaft plus who knows what else) . Shes at a holden shop atm , theyve given me a quote for roughly $8000 assuming the worst of everythinv this also includes replacing my cam !
Im not the best with cars but i take pride in knowing my car bit worried coz im a chick i might be getting taken for a ride ! Just wondering if this is the right price ? Or near abouts .... I also just did a recon on my gearbox and new diff so i cant stop now have to fix it all !

A bit more info may help. Is it making noises, rattling, blowing smoke???????????? You can buy a new engine for less than $8,000.

I had a reconditioned LS1 fitted for $5,400 by Higginbottom, so $8000 sounds a bit cheap. I am happy with their work.

Holy crap 8 grand?? never in my right mind would i ever expect that sort of quote back.. well i guess it is the holden dealership. for 8 grand id be expecting a top notch engine that is that clean you could eat off it with every single nut, bolt and part replaced also id be expecting a good warranty guarantee, maybe even a performance part or 2 thrown in.
I understand its a V8 and would cost more but around where i live you can get ecotec V6's rebuilt for around 2 grand, obviously like i said a V8 will cost more but **** man 8 grand?

Id get a 2nd quote, maybe ask some friends or ring around some different mechanics and get some prices i certainly wouldn't jump the gun and give the go ahead for that job without ringing around town.

Wish you the best of luck with it what ever way you go..
