Hi there

Having some trouble with my 2001 Vu ute V6 manual

Say when changing from 3rd to 4th
I accelerate in 3rd to 3000rpm then push clutch in and let off the throttle it stays around 3000rpm (sometimes slightly increasing) and doesnt drop untill i change to 4th,

when i accelerate to 3000rpm then hold clutch in it stays around the same then very slowly comes down

also today was rolling around a carpark in 2nd, looking for a park when it started pulling (accelerating) so i pushed the clutch in and it revved up to 2500rpm and stayed there, gave the throttle a slight pump and it slowly dropped to around 1000rpm

Anyone know what it could possibly be, i thought it may be the throttle cable but using my hand it snaps back reasonably quick

sorry if this has already been covered but havent been able to find anything similar

any help would be appreciated
might have to go back to driving my vl , hasnt let me down for a few years ha

sounds like u have a sticky accelerator. Check if your accelerator cable is getting snagged on anything. Remove your intake hose so you can see the throttle body and blip the throttle manually, see if it sticks. Might need a clean out.

Any recent work on the car?

Does it idle normally when stopped?

The reason for this happening I suspect is the IAC being in the wrong position.

If it idles high, it could be ducked/stuck.

If the car isles normal but this still happens driving, this suggest the computer is setting the IAC to the wrong position. I would be looking at the TPS first in that instance.

Aside from that, first thing to check is all the holes to and from the manifold and TB. A split or disconnected hose could be the issue andthis is the easiest thing to check and fix.

Good luck.

Checked cable seems alright and snaps back well, waiting on a mate to come and push the pedal and see if its snagging in the line, the butterfly doesn't look like its getting caught and seems reasonably clean, can't find any vacuum lines has anyone got a picture to help???
Really starting to bug me cause it sounds like I'm slipping the clutch and don't know how to drive and if I let the revs fall before I change up a gear it sounds like an auto lol

Ask for help; ignores questions that could help diagnose issue.

No work been done to my knowledge haven't had it long
And idles fine around 1000rpm mark if that sounds right

I am thinking TPS more and more in that case.

Idle sound maybe a whisker high to me, but being around that mark also suggests the IAC is operating. Just sitting in the open position when you are driving.

There is some way to check for error codes as this would be a starting point. Search this forum as I remember a how to on it.

Then your options are to either take a punt and replace the TPS hoping that is the issue, or drop it to a mechanic to 100% diagnose.

Just quickly, is this a recent development or has it been happening since you got the car?

The IAC does open and close with the throttle.
This ensures the engine idle does not drop too low and stall.
The IAC may be sticking and not closing properly as stated above.
Take it out and give it a push in and pull out to see if it moves. It takes a little effort.
When adjusting the IAC, make sure the distance between the o ring and the tip of the pintle is no less than 28mm.
