hi all, I have a VX 01 and I have oil in my overflow tank when the dipstick is pulled out, a few people have said this is caused by the rear main seal? its only a tiny tiny leakage or its been blocked because I do not see anything in the oil or coolant when I drain it. Any ideas or what I should do?

I also have a strange knock sound when I drive or reverse from stationary, it only knocks once and only happens when it has been sitting in one spot for awhile.

And I have a rough idle when stationary but when driving it seems to be normal, idle does not move up and down

    Thanks

Oil in your overflow tank is usually from leaking lower inlet manifold gaskets. The factory ones are plastic and usually crack. This could cause your rough idle also. Where is the knock noise coming from. It could be anything from sagged engine mounts if the noise is at the front, to a worn cv joint on rear axle or exhaust hitting floor somewhere.

so it wont be the rear main seal then? as I do not see any traces of coolant in the oil. Drivers side it only happens when I change gear from P to R or R to D. Does not happen all the time though, tie rods, cv joints are still good and do not think its an exhaust problem. A friend ssa

If the rear main seal was leaking you will have oil leaking onto the ground from the back of the engine or front of the trans. Your knock noise could be from sagged engine mounts which can let your sump hit the front crossmember.
