Hi all, my VX Acclaim engine has a knocking / taping sound that gets faster with the car speed. The knocking also sounds more gurguling/ wet just after putting petrol and later it's more dry sounding. The interior of the car also smells like fuel often. Just before the knocking started a couple of months ago the car was shacking when idling as if it might stall when stopped at a red light. I had one mechanic look at it and they thought it might be some balance shaft and opened it up to look at it but it wasn't this. The car has also been burning up the oil for a while needing frequent top ups and oil changes.
The car has about 220K kilometers on the clock. I got quoted between $2800 and $4K to replace the engine, they can't tell exactly how much untill done. I have been patching it to keep running and the car also has sentimental value to me. I am wondering of it is worth trying to get my engine fixed instead of replaced if it might be cheaper. Any sugestions please? Also if anyone knows a good place to take ot to in Brisbane please? Many thanks in advance!
