Does anyone know if it is difficult to replace the module? Can this be done without disturbing the entire block and brake lines? Thanks for any advice.
If it's the electical part of the ABS, then yes. As you look at the ABS, the front part (black plastic) comes off (after removing the torque screws and harness) no dramas. Not a difficult job if you have the right tool. There's a few threads on this subject. Do a quick search and you'll find some more detailed commentaries and pics that will better explain. I suspect you'll be going for a second hand / reco one rather than a $700 job from Holden. If yes, be careful about which ABS module you buy as they vary from VT/VX to VY to VZ and not all have traction control etc. Best bet is to take off the existing one, get the model number that should start with 0273 xxxx xxxxx then search for one with the exact same model number, otherwise it won't work. I bought a second hand one off a known parts place in eastern SA, apart from sending me a V6 intially, when they sent me one which was advertised for a VT SII with T/C, they sent me a VY one with no T/C. A total PITA dealing with that company, never again. So check the model number first and double check the details with any seller. Most Ebay sellers are quoting the module part number now, which wasn't the case 6-12 months ago. Good luck.
Very easy, 10 minute job 2 plugs and 6 t20 torx. Be sure to remove earth from battery first. Mine was $180 from ebay. VXII Clubsport.
Hi, I "think" I have similar problem; all dash warning lights come on out-of-the-blue, temp gauge stops working and small "x" appears on RHS of A/C display. Steering seemed to be heavier (might be my imagination) otherwise car feels normal. Most of time, I can get the lights to return to normal by stopping, switching off and restarting after a couple of minutes - not this morning though. I started to looked for the model number of the ABS (Gen lll, TC) and everything returned to normal after removing the harness plug and plugging it back in when I didn't have a torx driver. Where is the ABS module model number, please?
actually better yet, here's a guide from right here on the site! Dude fails to mention removing the Earth lead from the battery first though. Also sometimes the issue is related to the connector and other times it is a couple of wires inside the module that are at fault. http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...-2002/18121-yes-abs-module-2.html#post1927202 http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/vt-vx-holden-commodore-1997-2002/18121-yes-abs-module-2.html
Removal is as per the advice above. N.B. If anyone is in need of one, I have one from a VX SS (with Trac) and one from a VY Clubsport (with Trac) for sale cheap. Cheers, Chris
Hi Chris, My ABS Module (0 273 004 486) is in a VX 5.7 with T/C. Do you still have your units? If so, what are your part numbers and what was the odometer readings of each of car when the units were taken out? And the big question - how cheap is "cheap"? Cheers, Dan
Hi Dan, I've sold a few of them now but do still have one left from the VX SS i mentioned earlier. Will check the number as soon as I can for you. If its the right one i'll do it for $60 posted to you. The car had approx 136,xxx kms from memory. Cheers, Chris
G'day Chris, Thanks for your quick reply. If the part no.(0 273 004 486) is correct, we can do a deal. I am in Port Macquarie, so pick up from the South Coast would be virtually impossible. I can pay by EFT direct deposit, Paypal or send a cheque - whatever is best for you. It might be best if details are discussed by phone - my mobile is 0414 747 867 Cheers, Dan
