Hi guys I was driving my vx Commodore home this afternoon when I started losing acceleration looked down and noticed battery light was on I then lost power steering and had to pull over car immediately died and now won't start. It seems like it's trying to kick over but then shakes and dies again ive had to leave it on side of road! Any ideas?

See if it starts again once the engine has cooled down for 30 mins or so. You can also spray water on the crank angle sensor (near the crankshaft balancer) to decrease the temperature. If it then starts, you need a new crank angle sensor. Post up the results.

Pop the bonnet and see if the serpentine belt is still on the pulleys.

Check the error codes, google how to do that on a vx.

Could be the DFI or cas among other things if it hasn't run out of fuel?

Hold mode and up then turn key to on (reds)
Release buttons
then

Press Mode = Mode Switch Voltage - e.g. BV - - - 5.0
Press Mode = Battery Voltage - e.g. V 11.8
Press Mode = Petrol Sender Voltage - e.g. FUEL 02.6
Press Mode = LPG Sender Voltage - e.g. VL 5.0
Press Mode = Remaining Fuel - e.g. 38L
Press Mode = Instantaneous Fuel (Liters per Hour) - e.g. 12.8 L/H
Press Mode = Engine Coolant Temp - e.g. 63 C
Press Mode = Vehicle Speed - e.g. 45 KM/H
Press Mode = Tachometer - e.g. 2380
Press Mode = Park Lamps Switch - e.g. P OFF
Press Mode = Dash Trouble Codes - e.g. t 00 (Press up/down to scroll through any codes, these are not PCM, ABS, etc codes)
Press Mode = Dash Test - All gauges will move, lights will come on and buzzer will sound.

Your alternator may have failed and discharged the battery. Try a new charged battery, or easier still, try using jumper leads to to a donor vehicle to start your car.
