Hi guys, just bought a 2002 VX commodore. Noticed the temperature gauge doesn’t read properly. It’ll idle for 10 minutes and it’ll move to just above the C but when i drive it, it just fluctuates between nothing and a quarter. I’ve flushed the radiator and put new coolant in as well as a new temp sender but none of those worked. Does anyone know what this could be?

Thank you

Yeah sure did. Temperature gauge barely goes over a quarter. And if it does it’s only there for about 15 seconds.

Just researching on another thread that the thermostat gets stuck open. Will take the thermostat housing off and have a look tomorrow after work.

My 2002 vx series 2 does the same thing but only in the colder weather. It seems to take forever for it to come up to operating temp. In summer it comes up to temp quickly and stays between 1/4 and 1/2 as it should. Let me know what you find the problem is.

I replaced the thermostat and it works a bit better now. Reads a bit more accurate than what it was before
