Hey, i have been offered a set of brand new VX GTS rims with bridgestone tyres for $1600. Just wondering if i can make these things legal on the VT Exec. Tyre Plate is 16's so in SA i can goto 18inch. Just would like to know if i can get it engineered to say that the 19's are safe etc.?? Cheers, Nick
yer its about $400 for engineers for rims. in vic, i duno if they changed the law is SA yet, but you can go any size you want, as long as the load rating is fine and its a certain diamter aboe the stock size. to get past the engineers cert. VT's also came with 17inch rims, and 18inch rims, so just put a vt ss placard on and they cant do anything. im pretty sure it also states somewhere in that law, that its 2inch above the biggest rim on that model as long as the same brakes and hubs are used off that model. which in the vt's case were all the same, meaning you can go up to 20z.
thanks 4 the info. big help there. the mate who can get the rims is pretty high up at ROH and they come with a build number and everything. im thinkin about buying a bunch of them and selling them on
In SA we are still bound by the 2 inch law, we're the only state in Aus (apart maybe from NT?). You cannot just change the tyre placard, thats just a cheap ebay scam. Police do carry books that state the original tyre and rims for different model cars, so they do not have to even check your tyre placard. Also, changing the tyre placard is an offense, and is the same as changing any other plate on the vehicle... It is very, very illegal. As for this: The law states nothing of the sort. It says: Vehicles manufactured on or after 1 January 1973 (ADR 24) are not permitted to increase or decrease the diameter of the wheel by more than 50 mm than the largest or smallest wheel listed on the vehicle's original tyre placard. To the OP: This has been posted millions of times (wheel size, engineers certificates etc.) so use the damn search button. Also, this is the wrong section, it is the my ride section.
cheers 1991_vn2nv, so if i take it down to regency with 19's on it do u think i will be able to get it passed? i will roll the gaurds when the 19's go on it. cheers, Nick
You don't need to take it down to Regency luckily. Pop into a tyre store... i.e. Mag Wheel and Tyre Centre or Wheelworx. They should have contact info for Chartered Accounts Engineers, ask them for some info. Maybe pretend you wanna buy rims there so they're more helpful Or you can contact Transport SA as they have the whole list of approved engineers and they'll give you details for someone close. I believe the correct number is 1300 882 248. They'll make sure there is sufficient clearance for those rims which there should be. You shouldn't need larger brakes or anything for 19's but they'll have all the info. Just ensure that the tyres are correct (load rating, speed rating, overall diameter etc). They'll charge around $400, give you all the official paperwork and have you on your way They should also give you a new.. LEGAL.. tyre placard as well as new eyebrow heights for legal ride height.
yeh i think it is worth it. one because it will be legal and i wont have to worry about the police and two because i dont care about $400. money is made round to go round. its prob different for many people out their but i dont care about money too much. so yeh i think its worth it
