Hey guys..

Short Story:

Headunit wont work - No power
Stock HU wont work anymore - power but no writing on the screen

Long Story:

Have had a **** amount of unluckiness happen over a stupid stereo.

Basically i bought a Pioneer HU and tried to install it with harnesses. Everything worked fine except the antenna which i need to hardwire separately. However the rear right speaker didnt work. The guy took the HU into the shop to test it on one of those and the front right didn't work so he blamed the car but still sent the HU off to get fixed because i proved to him the stock stereo worked fine.

The guy called me a week later and said it might take longer ill give you the newer model instead so i took it. Still back right didnt work so i changed the Harnesses and it did work :). But i noticed Supercheap auto had it for 40 less so i refunded it and went to supercheap auto. However there was a JVC one there i liked for 114$ so i bought that and a harness for it. The harness was incompatible so i decided to hardwire it mysellf.

For the VT:

Accessory - Yellow
Batter (constant) - Orange/black
Ground - Black/white
Antenna - Yellow/Red
FL + Tan
FL - Grey
FR + LightGreen
FR - Darkgreen
RL +Brown/Black
RL -Yellow/ Blue
RR + BlueOrange
RR -Blue/Black

Because i might use my stock stereo again i decided to keep the VT/VX harness in and just cut off the adapters on those. The JVC HU had two antenna wires (Remote and Automatic) I chose Auto fyi.
So basicly there is no power getting to this new HU, it just wont turn on or anything. I hardwired so there was no solder and havnt taped it up, as if it didnt work i would have had to untape it all.
I didnt ground the black, because i didnt think i needed to, and didnt take the negative off my battrey because i didtn know how. Im pretty ignorant.

So if you guys have any advice or questions feel free to help, would be much apprecaited

how did you "hardwire" it without solder or taping up connections? chances are youve shorted something and blown a fuse or 2.

check fuses, ground the black wire, make sure none of the wires are bare/touching and try again.

if you want to learn to do something, learn to do it right. buy a soldering iron, learn to solder, solder the connections properly, tape/heatshrink them up so they dont short or you're just going to be sending headunits in for repair every time.

technicaly speaking it "should" ground through the antenna wire, but just not verry well.....

if you want to learn to do it yourself maybe go and pay someone to do it for you and ask them if u can watch, or speak to a mate that has done it before,

if you dont at least tape your conections to try to test it your not gonna get far, i can understand not wanting to solder before testing, but if you dont insulate the wires your risking blowing fuses, or worst case starting a fire and loosing your car all together,

Hi there, im a mate of Tims.

Just wired it all up for him, turns out he had blown the fuse by not taping up the connections, also he didn't connect ground or remote. The harness he purchase also had incorrect pins.

The only issue we are having now is how to get the antenna to go up and down, what wires should i connect for that. Theres only one power wire for the antenna out of the JVC headunit.

And as far as i know the VX needs two connections for the headunit to go up and down, + and -

Ohh also as we couldn't find a constant 12v we just connected the Accessory and the 12v to the same cable ( Ignition wire on vx ). So when the cars turned off the headunit loses its memory as its not a constant 12v source. Anybody know which wire on the stock VX is the 12v for power??

Thanks

hook the blue/white(or is it just blue on the jvc) to the yellow/red on the car. this should make the antenna go up when the unit is turned on, and go down when its turned off.

constant 12v is orange/black. recheck the fuses, no doubt hes blown that one aswell.
