Hey guys.

Was towing a trailer yesterday, and the car was repeadedly switching from drive/reverse for about 10 mins straight to get into the driveway.

It turned off at one stage, but turned straight on after. When the car was off, a fair amount of coolant poured out the bottom of the car.

Drove it today about 5k with the trailer on, no issues. Got it home, and maybe 100ml of coolant came out again. But it didn't heat up.

Checked the coolant and its full, right at the top...

Will it be safe to drive ? As not all the coolant came out when it overheated, Jusy maybe 500ml or so.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

Sounds like your rad cap could be stuffed, would help to identify where the coolant came from in the first instance, but it could have just been the overflow. That's why the radiator is full. Have you checked the overflow level?

All good. Replace the cap for one, and check the water level located bottom right of this pic:

The cooling system sucks and blows fluid in and out of the overflow as required via the rad cap (car porn). If your cap is stuffed, not only will it overheat due to lack of pressure, the overflow will cop it and spew through a breather under the car.

Could be a few other issues but that's a cheap and easy start.

Will go and buy a cap later this arvo mate. Water level is all the way up, so hopefully just the cap is buggered ?

Thanks for going to all that trouble btw mate

Like I said it's a start and rad caps are often the forgotten consumable.

Don't worry mate that's a pic from another JC post, I just borrowed it :)

also don't forget to check your heater tap, they tend to fall apart especially around 200k
