Hey not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I've been having some troubles with my Vx lately.
Car starts pretty easily, but when I put my foot on the accelerate the whole car shakes and shudders, followed with some kind of rattle noise, and then the car eventually cuts out, I've had the RAA look at it and be pretty stumped, and had lube mobile come have a look and test spark plugs leads etc tell me were all ok. He then decided it was the fuel pump however the car runs the exact same on gas so is that out of the question? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

If its was an older car I'd say the timing is out, when she cuts out does it also splutter and plonk.
Before testing everything possible I'd take her to a Holden place and get them to connect it up t see the error codes and go from there.
Maybe just a sensor or something as easy as that, whats your maintenance program like, is she regularly serviced and well maintained.

I've had a mechanic check for error codes and nothing, I've been leaning towards a sensor but unsure as no codes have come up, car has been regularly serviced and maintained

I don't really know how to explain the noise when it cuts out but spluttering and a plonk sounds pretty accurate

Sounds to me like the DFI.
Give the wiring connected to the dfi/cool pack a wiggle while running or
Trying to start it and see if that makes a difference.

If it does I'd change the coils and the pack they're sitting on.
A cheap way to get it to work is to remove the wiring harness and spraying it and the connector on the unit with circuit cleaner or even maf cleaner.
I did that to be able to drive to Bursons to get my new DFI.
Hope that can be of help.

I wish it was the dfi, I've had two fail on me within the last 6 months however I'm 99% sure it isn't as I tested with one of my old ones and the same problem (as well as the problem with the old dfi) still occurs

Looks like you have done everything Id do...as its the same on gas and fuel and most of the ignition system has been replaced, it has to be something that is common to both fuels...First up have the plugs been changed and are of the right heat range and type...blocked exhaust,if the cat or muffler has collapsed then it should start fine but wont do more than idle for a little while. Test by dropping the exhaust after the o2 sensors but before the cats ...Vacuum leak, if your sucking in to much air the mixture will lean out and may cause pinging/detonation(the rattle your hearing before it dies)...Start the car let it idle and lightly spray VERY CAREFULLY wd40 around the engine bay, the idle speed will change when the wd40 is sucked in giving you an idea were to look for leaks

    Hi
Your problem sounds like the problem l have (had). I was going through dfi/coil packs approximately every 5k km. Took it it to auto elec, said sounds like the plug to to dfi. The female connectors become loose, and don't connect properly, arcing out & eventually shorting out dfi & coil packs.
If its not that, it still sounds like a wiring problem.
Did l fix mine? I have just got over the 5k km mark. So far it seems ok. Hope l'm not being over optimistic.
    Hope this helps Lex

I had the same thing with my gas vt. it was the injectors. as soon as i had the injectors cleaned the problem went away. i was told that even on gas they use a little fuel on acceleration. give it a shot. it always worked for me.

This is pretty relatable, I literally had one dfi fail on me, and replaced, had that one die and then a whole new coil pack put in and hasn't failed since but could be what you said! Seeming as the other two failed out of no where

    I
I'm not too sure that it could be the exhaust as just about a month ago I've had a new cat back exhaust put in, but I'll try test for vacuum leaks, cheers heaps

Update: cars been at the mechanic since Thursday, they still have no clue what is wrong with it, tried to tell me that it was the dfi and it would be ready to pick up when I finished work, just to get there and tell me it's made no difference and hasn't fixed the problem!

    Hi
Try an auto electrician. Not a young bloke (no offense meant). Try a older guy, he may know of the problems vx had, & know how to fix the problem.

The mechanic taking care of it was an ex holdens worker who has brought in numerous of his friends from holdens, all still stumped to know what is wrong with the car, pretty much had every sensor swapped to see if anything makes a difference, nothing, even swapped out the ecu and is now telling me the next ideas are to either put in a new wiring harness ($1000 non refundable if it doesn't work) or pull apart the front of the engine to take a closer look.
I just want my car back

Do they have the diagnostic equipment ? if so it may pay to get them to save a log file of the car running and post it here or https://pcmhacking.net/forums/...without the tech 1/2 equipment its just very expensive suck it and see....
