hey all own a 2001 vx ss 6speed, around 150 000km on the clock.
few issues with it however and if any one has any suggestions or input that would be great.
first off
cruise control doesnt work, the lights on the dash dont come on it doesnt work - full stop
seems to be somehow linked to traction control not working also? it remains off at all times and im unable to switch it.
the check airbag light comes on everytime i start the car and goes beep beep beep, guessing this is due to the back drivers seat belt not retracting?

another thing that drives me mental, exhaust hanger rubbers, the ones that hold the rear muffler up, break constantly, id be lucky to get more then 1 week from them, and then the break again.. atm electrical wire is holding it up! standard hsv exhaust too.... drives me nuts!

another thing hasnt had oxy sensors connected for 2years or so no fault codes or anything is it worth getting a new set? i think the oxys may have been turned off when it was dyno tuned?

also the hand brake doesnt work very well, sometimes i grabs alittle bit, and its been tightened up heaps inside !

gets around 300km to a tank around town i guess thats about right?

...any input would be great
cheers

re cruise - can you turn it on but not set, or you can't even get the cruise turned on light? You've checked fuses? Check your brake lights. If they're blown or LEDs, you won't be able to activate cruise.

re airbag light - you need to get Holden to read the code for you. Obvious possibility is a fault with the airbag, could also be the seatbelt pre-tensioners I believe. It won't be the lack of seatbelt retraction.

cruise doesnt do a thing, lights on the dash dont come on nothing happens what so ever, used on come and go on and off with traction control.

think it maybe the seat belt tension thing... rather then the air bag, if i replace the seat belt will it shut up? or do i have to go to holden?

you will have to get a tech 2 tool which is used by holden and a variety of mechanics.
the tech 2 is able to reset the airbag warning lights etc...

you have to fix your traction problem for c/c to work..

check airbag light has nothing to do with retractors, could be front pre-tensioners or some other electrical fault..can only be fixed by Holden.

no oxy sensors and no fault codes??? BS...you've got problems with that car....no wonder u can only get 300klms out of full tank.

altough i doubt it very much ! but u have to get dirty if u wanna fix ur h/brake.

I get about 350 out of a tank in city driving approximately 16L per 100km

I reckon my gauge is out cause it shows distance to empty as 50km and it still had 20L in the tank

You need to get the oxy sensors operational or your fuel usage will be bad ( as you have found out). For the rear
muffler use two sets of the figure 8 rubber hangers next to each other( and get the thick flexible ones not the stiff ones). Mine used to break on my ss but after installing as above had no further issues.

I'm not going to say anything new, just agree with what has already been said.

oxygen sensors are there for a reason. As said you wont improve fuel economy without them. They're also part of the emission control system, meaning removing them is illegal.

handbrake shoes will need to be replaced by the sound of it, as already said. Easy for a mechanic with the right tools, bit longer to do it yourself but still not that difficult.
Same thing about getting someone to connect a tech 2, you will not be able to diagnose the airbag warning without one. While you're at holden getting the exhaust hangers ask about getting a diagnosis. They will most likely tell you the O2 sensors aren't working because it's set to a fixed number (which is how the tuner bypasses them).

They would also check if there are any recorded errors with the traction control. Unlike the V6 you cant get the error codes yourself on the LS1, can only be done using a Tech 2 or similar device.

Bottom line, someone needs to connect a diagnostic system to your car before you start ripping out expensive parts.
