Are you sure you bridged to correct pins, they are numbered if you look closely.

I have heard of this happening before but I don't know what the reason was.

Ill do that Oska thanks.
Now I have one other issue. When I the other engine came with its loom, it has a second small fuse box which says its for fans. Presumably its for the thermo fans, but there is no where to connect it up too as the thermo fans are connected to the the original electrical wiring. (as in the engine loom is sperate to the cars electrical system. Do the thermo fans work on the engines loom or the cars electrical loom. if it works on the engines loom presumeably I will have to some how connect them in. The electrical loom has 4 wires the engine loom has 2 wires.

So a quick update. The car still wont start with out the bridge in. Once in nothing flashes and the car starts fine. The bridge can be removed and it continues to run with no issues and the check light is off. I have checked for an earth as suggested but cant see one missing. The car has been running and accelerating fine got up to temp and the thermo fans are coming on fine. So obviously they work off the cars electrical system not the engines. I am still at a loss as to why the car wont start with out the bridge.

the ecu must be missing an earth or you have a faulty ecu or faulty wiring to ecu
