Try and tap the starter motor with a hammer and see if that gets it to crank.

Just read first post, if it works by turning the key back and forth it will likely be the key not making contact with the slip ring. I had this issue with my old bus and I replaced everything except the key, and when I sold it the problem was still there. It was the key knob all along but at near on $200 for a replacement, (providing my key was original) I never bothered.

Another possibility is the battery in the key fob is out of juice. Have you tried the spare key to see if you have the same problem?
