    HI,

I'm new here so if this is in the wrong spot please move it.

I have a 2004 VY SS Commodore and the passengers side front strut is rooted, the threaded part off the strut tower has been striped and Ive lost all the piece that go with it. Now there is a VT SS at the wreckers near me, will the passengers side front strut from it fit in?

I don't know if it matters but the car came with complete history and is an ex highway patrol car.

It will fit but as it comes from a VT, it could have different spring rates and valving in the damper. The real issue is that it is so old, it is probably clapped out too. If you decide to get it, make sure it's nice and cheap. If you have a set of spring compressors, you could just use the VT strut and fit your spring to it, so that your front springs are close to each other in compression rate.

Okay will do. I will change the spring over as well.

Is there a diagram anywhere that will show me how to reassemble the strut etc. The local wreckers doesn't like people watching or removing the parts they want, something to do with people being injured.

If I were you I would change both struts ( buy a new pair from Repco , ) that way you can disassemble the drivers side one & note how the bits go together. then do the Pax side , dont forget to buy new top mount rubbers & new top bearing rings as well . Your original springs can be swapped over to the 2 new struts. You need a set of spring compressors , but the springs are not under a great amount of compression, compared to some cars. Just make sure the compressors are fixed firmly on the spring at both ends & put plenty of oil on the threads of them.
