Did you read my last post properly? The washer is at the opposite end of the rackend to where the tierod end is.....

It is actually covered by the rack boot

Here's a picture of a rackend, complete with the offending washer that knuckle heads fail to straighten up therefore stuff the thread....

The part you don't see is at the top of this picture

Ill ask you the same question, did you read what i wrote? Once again... there was no washer.

Ill state it again, no washer on the rack end i took off.

Once again, just in case, no washer.

That clear enough?

Also. No replacement washer in the new rods.

Once again, no washer in the replacement rods.

So to sum it up, no washer.

So please tell me again how i stuffed the thread on the rack end by not bending back a non existent washer and simply un doing the rack end?

I await your condescending smart arse no productive reply.

Love the tie rod removal tool...What's that? Mine is called a hammer and a shifter...

If you removed the rackend, there should be a washer at the rack end of this part....They also come with one new, so if it didn't, GO GET ONE, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HOLDS THE RACKEND IN PLACE SO IT DOESN'T UNWIND....It is folded over the 2 flat sections of the rackend where the ball is....

IF YOU USE LOCTITE, A GOOD CHANCE OF ROOTING THE THREAD.....So of course using loctite, you will need a tap to fix the thread

Now where did I say, you stuffed the thread? I said, knuckle heads that fail to straighten out the washer are the ones that stuff the thread...I'll also add in, using loctite can stuff the thread too...

But hey, as long as you don't live near me or my friends and relatives, I shouldn't have to worry about you smashing into them when the rackend comes cleanly off the rack....I just feel sorry for the poor bugger you do hit

Is that a smart ass enough response, you potentially killing yourself or someone else?

Here is 2 pictures of the rack end on the drivers side which has not been touched by me other than moving the boot back.

There is no washer.

The passenger side was the same.

The rack end rod thread appeared to have no locktite on it once removed.

I've had this car since 2007, as far as i know the tie rods and rack ends have never been done by anyone.

did you use any loctite on the threads :)

Never been replaced by me, i just took off the rack end and noticed the thread was rooted on the old rack end. Didnt look like any old locktite was on the thread though.

And just for the record, this is what the thread on the passenger side came out like (stuffed)

I've done tonnes as well...The pin style finished up at the VB (possibly the VC)....When a replacement rackend has been received, they have 2 flats on the ball area, for a shifter to be used to tighten up and a washer to lock it into place.

There are other brand cars that have a pin in this area, but I won't get into that, as it really defeats the purpose in a commodore forum

For that thread to be stuffed, to me it says someone has touched it before you got the car......

To me, anyone that uses loctite doesn't have the confidence in themselves that they have done a nut or bolt up properly, therefore should leave things alone.

Of course this is a personal opinion based on years of spinning spanners, where loctite wasn't real prominent
