Hello folks,

Stopped my ute for about 10 minutes. Had been driving sensibly in a mix of highway/town driving for about 15 minutes prior. Started it again and there was a horrible rattling grinding noise. Shut it down and had a look under the bonnet, couldn't see anything so started it again and moved it from the spot where it was. It didn't make the noise that time.

On the ground there were a couple of small pieces of alloy about 5-7mm across and about 3-5mm thick. These bits of metal dropped under where the rear of the engine would have been and were very clean, not traces of oil/grease or clutch dust.

Anyone care to offer an opinion on what the deceased part may be?

Thanks for any help you can offer.
Glen.

Well it seems like some part of the clutch tried to escape. The bell housing is cracked about half way around the circumference and the are a couple of nice little holes around the top half.

Not ideal.

Well turns out it was expensive. Had get some parts overnighted from Japan (well, Melbourne).

Stock clutch seems to have done what stock clutches do, and slipped like a mofo. Developed some nice hot spots and shuddered a lot. The end result was a couple of clutch bolts shearing off and having a fun time getting intimate with the bell housing.

The bell housing is split as indicated by the arrows. Chucks missing as indicated by the missing chunks.
