ok guys heres the story, i go through cars more than i change my underwear because i get really bored of them

my mint vn berlina 5spd lasted with me for a year and half untill it was sold (broke even) with no major mechanical problems and with about 184000 kms on the clock

86 corolla sold (for a profit) after 2 months no problems 319000kms

mint 99 vt exec sII sold (for a profit) after 12 months no major problems 125000kms
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
current vehicles

96 vs SII exec (myne and the misses car she drives it 95% of the time and wants to keep that for another 3 years its her first car) 164000 kms

mint 95 vs ute (bought at an absolute give away price from a novice owner with minor mechanical problems all sorted now) 94000kms bored of it already only had it for about 3 months spent about $4500 on top of purchase price to do it up which brings it in the price range of other utes ive seen in the same condition private/dealer. With depreciation i guessing should break even when i sell it knowing my luck with car sales

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

so yes after beeing bored of all these cars i am looking at updating this time next year to either a vy or a vz preferably with about 50000kms and full electrics looking to spend around the $17500 mark can stretch the budget if need be and dont want to do it up like i have with other cars just keep it stock and im guessing with the release of the VE prices of non current models will drop significantly

which would be the better option, im assuming the vz will cost me more to purchase beeing a later model but the plus beeing the new alloytech motor

the vy would be much cheaper to buy but only have the ecotec engine

when it all boils down i am going to try to force myself to keep this car for at least 5 years which i havent been able to do yet, what in your opinion would be a better option as far as models eg berlina, calais, spac, acclaim etc & finacially or even should i perhaps aim for something different maybe a statesman ???

Are you a car salesman? lol. To drive and sell a car later for a profit, not once, but three times is... unusual. As for the model selection; minus the engine and transmission, I would say that the models are pretty much the same. The VY's would allready have allready sustained the bulk of what one would call reasonable depreciation - I don't think that they will get much cheaper for a while. I would suspect that VZ's have some serious depreciation left in them being the current model, and as you mentioned, with the release of the VE in September - prices are sure to drop. Try to get a model with accessories that enhance resale value (Automatic Transmission, Air Conditioning, Leather seats, etc). Given your track record, I would suspect that I should be taking advice from you though - lol.

hah yeah i should be a car sales rep, ive always managed to pick my cars up cheap and then set a price which i think is reasonable according to what else is on the market at the time and then just stick to the price, my vn i was lucky and sold within a day because i asked the right person.

my vt was on the market for 3 months in the quokka carpoint and ebay before it sold, i ended up finding a wanted advert in the quokka because somone wanted a vt bassiclly as pristine as myne (myne looked like the day it came from the factory unlike the majority of the lower spec vt's on the market) and wanted to pay around as much as i had advertised they looked at the car and test drove it twice second time they made an offer of about $2000 less than asking price i declined and they called me in the morning offered $1000 less, i declined they called me 20 minutes later and said theyl take it for asking price when can they pick it up, i ended up making $3500 profit on top of the outlay of the car and repairs mechanicle/cosmetic & the corolla i made an extra $300 on purchase price

but i have noticed in the market and my hard time selling the vt is because it was a lower spec it had a few options but not as good as a calais/berlina type model which is why im wanting to get a high optioned commodore for my next car
