Ahhhhh.. I've been searching through all the old threads on here, (for too many hours, and now due for sleep time..) under the FAQ's and issues with VY's, but have not come up with a solid answer.. I have lowered my car, I think to about super super low? (pretty low), looks sweet, rides on 20's, and while I had the cash, the tyre wear wasnt a big deal, but now not the case..:whistling My Tyre shop reccommended that I get them to fit a Camber Castor kit, but wont get much change from $600, and i was like mmm,, probly not, On my VT, I bought the same kit off K-mac for about $200-250, from what I remember, and a FEW hours to install, followed by a wheel alignment, but that didnt fix the problem at all, it still had huge neg. camber, and wore tyres like a b****, :bang: SO.. I am undecided whether to fit the kit again, because some people say there is camber adjustment on VY's and shouldnt need it, while others say if you lower your car you will need it.. If I do end up getting one, I will fit it myself - saving on the labour costs.. What are your opinions on this problem? If any of you guys have had this problem, and fixed it or not fixed it.. any advice would be great. Thanks in advance, (sorry if this has been answered a million times, i just couldnt find a straight answer...) EDIT: the VT I mentioned was only running on 18's, and wasn't low at all, just lower than FE2, and I installed that kit aswell, got a profressional wheel alignment.
prob shouldn't have gone ssl's with 20's that will be part of the problem. the kit they were trying to sell you could have been a 4 way adjust kit and not a 2 way kit. irs is a pain when it comes to lowering
From your sig it looks like your car is a series 2 which means that it already has excelent toe and camber adjustment on the rear. I think the problem may be in the set up. There are different ways to adjust for a suitable static camber and toe but a good set up will take into account the wheel/tyre position and angles through the range of suspension travel. That being said, depending on how low your car is it may be nessecary to run camber on the rear for the tyre to clear the inside of the guards under movement. Any pics? Edit: VY2 only need a t point camber kit at worst on the inner trailing arms as a 4 point will actually put the trailing arms on a different axis and can wear the driveshafts. Don't be conned by the shops, the factory adjustment is quite good on the VY2
yeah im not sure if they are super super lows, there lovelles? i think, blue ones lmao, im not 100% sure, I put them in pretty much the day after i got the car, drove outta the wheel shop, and on the way home called into the suspension shop, they've been in there for about 3.5 to 4 years, and they didnt have all the same height names as the others.. i just thought that'd be a rough conversion, its not ridiculously low or anything, i can get over most speedhumps/gutters, Do you mean 4 bushes, or 4 way adjust? I only know of the 4 bushes, is this another style?? the kit I had in the VT was the 4 bushes, eccentric bushes from kmac, and the kit my tyre shop was trying to sell me was also the 4 bushes, but an installed price.. And ooooooh yeah, im pretty sure I decided never again in the VT, but here i am (must be a slow learner, lol or just not too worried about the price to look good!!) haha cheers again..
WOW im glad i asked the question then, you seem to have quite a bit of knowledge about these.. cheers for the heads up about the drive shafts, i was thinking about doing the 4 bush kit, Yeah my baby gurl is a series 2, v6, stocko, aside from wheels and lowered, ive flared/pumped the guards out about half an inch, or more, where the flat bit is on the wheel arch, flattened it out so it goes straight out - not bent in that little bit, because I got a wheel alignment and they were scrubbing, but there still is a little bit near where the bumper meets the body that I need to take a look at.. I havent got any good pics atm, but will get some tomorrow hopefully morning, ive currently got stocks on the back (acclaim rims) because it chewed the 20's but ill throw them back on for a piccy or two.. Do you think it would be worth driving down to sydney to get a couple of tyres and wheel alignment at a ''fully hectic workshop braa'' because they would have more experience in the big wheel low car side of things?? my place where I normally go - im not 100% sure if they're really switched on at wheel alignments! haha fronts wear out fine? so they might just be leaving me room for clearance, so I dont scrub? Im seriously thinking about saying to them just adjust it all the way, where it needs to be, dont worry about clearance, then drive the f***er home, get a sledgie and go nuts!! haha, cheers for your advice chargedvx6, ill get some pics up asap, so you can see whats what,
Actually, i found some, alright-ish pics, like i said, its not crazy low, but the camber is pretty severe.. what do you think chargedvx6?? do you want a pic of the underside to see if there is the camer adjust? well theres ride height.. and a couple, from the side, sort of.. one day after i washed it (pretty rare these days) is that good enough, or want some from straight behind?? and under neath???
haha thanks, I was trying to stay away from the Cromies you see on every other commodore,:whistling so I went with something a little different, not all look at me, but still imo a stylish wheel.. And i was unaware that you could install them incorrectly, all each bush is, is two half bushes, that you push in from either side and a cyclinder that has the bolt hole drilled offset to centre, it can only really go in one way to locate into the bolt.. when I set up the wheel alignment from the beginning, the instructions tell you how to do it, to a safe level - until you get it to a wheel aligner.. when i set it up it was the opposite to what it shouldve been, it had HUGE camber, but they aligned it and it looked sooo much better, but still had the problem of wearing the inside edge, sooo i dont know?!!
