Hey guys, I'm looking at a VY series II exec. It has done just under 40,000kms and seems to be in ok condition (but I haven't inspected it too closely yet).

I'm not really familiar with the VY (or the series II for that matter) and so was interested in any general opinions on the model as a whole. Were they able to fix up many niggling issues of the series I?

Looking at paying around $19000 so price seems to be ok.

    Thoughts are appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jimbo

I have a VYII and think they are great. The last of the old motor, so least likely to get problems. Apart from one power steering issue which was fixed under warranty, i've had no dramas (other than the first handfull of VYII's, this problem was already fixed from the factory). I'd have no trouble recommending them.

Just a thought, check out the auctions, as they have a huge supply of VYII Execs, going for decent prices.

i have a S2 VY as well, great car, no problems yet (touch wood)

19 sounds about right i guess, you can pick em up from the auctions for around $15 but add on ur fees and roadworthy etc etc 19 is fair.

I paid 21 back a few months ago, with plenty of warranty left on the car still so i figured it was worth buying it over the auctions where you cant be too sure.

Anywho, if you do buy it, it will probably serve you well, just be prepared to have limited mods (compared to older models) for a while, body kits for example, 2 special ones to chose from, HSV or a SSX, pretty limited seeing as the monaro only fits vx down (grumbles)

    goodluck

    VY II Acclaim Wagon
I picked up an 04 VYII Acclaim wagon from the Auctions last month for 20800 with only 23000ks - so far no problems and very happy with the car. Bit scared of auction initially but figured if still under warranty and ex-gov (they tend to have strict maintenance requirements) then should be ok. Great looking car in my view the VYII - last of an era with the ecotech.

You should have no problems with the VYII, they are a great car. Just look at the VY issues posts and be aware of the common problems with them. Also Government auctions are a great place to pick up cheap cars, Yes the have had all their services, 99% of the time, and they are still covered by manufactures warranty, 99% of the time, so if you ever have a problem you have the back up for the warranty.
I only wished I had looked at the auction b4 I bought mine, I could of saved at least 5-6k, :ranting: but you know how it goes I wanted it there and then cause it was shiny!!! :yeah:

    2004 Series 2 Manual.

I've had mine for over a year now, and have no problems at all.

Paid under $25,000 ex GST drive away, brand new.

Also have a VS S2 manual (1997 model), which has been as good a car as I have ever owned.

I like the combination of the Ecotech engine and the Getrag manual gearbox. Not so impressed with the slushbox.

I've just bought a VY Series II Berlina (2004). So far I am very impressed with it then again it's only done 9000km so was nearly like buying a new car.

The only problem I have with it is that it's a v8 yet I can hardly tell it is (silent nearly).

I have just returned from a trip away where I drove a hire car from an "unmentionable" manufacturer for a few days. When I collected my VYII from the long term parking on return, it was heaven...just like the first beer after a long days work in the sun, only better!.... The VYII is a great car, no doubts in my mind!

Just under 35k (this included the 12 months rego and all other on road costs)

I dunno if that is good or bad but I thought it was fair considering the car is basically brand a new (only 7,300km when I bought it). Brand new berlinas are what 40k ish ?

It's also a GenIII 5.7 V8 engine and they always seem to cost a little more then their v6 counterparts.

That seems like a reasonable price to me. I've been looking around lately and I'd be happy with that.

Good buy, I bought a VY exec sereis two weeks ago for $19500, 36534K's on the clock. Certfied as well as remaining 2yrs of 3yr new car warranty. Dealer threw in bonnet protectors, light protectors, full boot liner and HSV floor mats. Sounds like a good buy.

    HBD VYII Acclaim
I bought my car at a government auction aswell. VYII Acclaim, 27,000kms, for $20,400. I've taken the money I saved had I bought it retail, and upgraded like nothing else. Now the exterior is indistinguishable from an SS, with an interior that would suit a Calais. I highly recommend the auctions to anyone wishing to upgrade.

This is where I got mine from - there are similar setups in each state
